The Columbia County Field Guide for Noxious Weeds is intended to help landowners and land managers identify invasive plants that could, or do already, negatively impact Columbia County in an effort to prevent their spread and reduce infestations.  Most of the plants in this guide are State listed noxious weeds.  A few are non-listed species of regional importance.  This guide includes weeds that are imminent “new invaders” as well as those that are already well established. Species are organized by their preferred habitat type.
This guide does not include information on how to remove, treat, or control weeds.

This Flip-Book-style guide is a great resource to keep handy for those who enjoy surveying/monitoring or if you’re just curious what you might have stumbled upon and want to stay ahead of the spread!

What is Early Detection and Rapid Response?

Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR) is an approach to invasive species management that focuses on surveying and monitoring areas to find infestations at their earliest stages of invasion. Monitoring can be either passive (during normal work or recreation), or active (by searching a particular area repeatedly for invasive species).

Once found, control of a new invader is begun rapidly to prevent its establishment and spread. After prevention, EDRR is the most successful, cost effective, and least damaging means of invasive species control.
